Presented at the 2015 Bedford County Historical Society’s Annual Quilt Show & Sale will be CORE ‘Remembrance Quilts’ that honor those who gave the gift of life through organ, tissue and cornea donation. These handmade quilts are part of a special collection of 20 quilts held by the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) in Pittsburgh. Since 2006, CORE has offered donor families in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, the opportunity to create a personalized quilt square to memorialize their loved one. Those memorial squares are sewn together by CORE volunteers to make larger ‘Remembrance Quilts’ that are shown throughout local communities to educate others about the importance of organ donation.  Right now more than 8,600 people in Pennsylvania are waiting for a life-saving transplant. By donating organs, one individual can help up to eight people, while tissue donors can improve the lives of up to 50 people. CORE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting donation, education and research for the purpose of saving and improving lives through organ, tissue and cornea transplantation. More information and photos of these quilts click HERE.

Organized entirely by volunteers, the Bedford Fall Foliage Festival draws an estimated 70,000 visitors to Bedford over both weekends. There are activities and entertainment for folks of all ages.
